Administrative Medical Assistant
(Career Field: Business & Administrative Services)

Students in the Administrative Medical Assistant program learn administrative procedures needed to work in a doctor’s office, clinic, or hospital. Coursework includes instruction in maintaining patient charts and accounts receivable/payable, coding insurance forms, and preparing computerized billing.  In addition, students learn to schedule appointments, type correspondence, and transcribe doctor's orders and reports.

Administrative Medical Assistant graduates can serve in the profession as clerical staff members employed by doctors in private practice or clinical settings. Other graduates may find employment in the rapidly growing, large group-practice systems and HMOs.

Employment in this career field is projected to grow faster than the average through 2014 due to an increasing demand for standardized records in medical offices and hospitals!
